The Brewers acquired RHP Trevor Rosenthal from the Giants in exchange for OF prospect Tristan Peters.
Trevor Rosenthal hasn’t pitched since the 2020 covid shortened season, but he was fantastic in that season. Rosenthal posted a 1.97 xERA and a 2.83 xFIP with a 41.8 K% in 2020. The hard throwing righty was in the top 1% of the league in xBAA, xERA, and xwOBA. While Rosenthal has had an injury riddled last couple of years, if he can regain his 2020 form he will be a big boost to a Milwaukee bullpen that is now without Josh Hader.
The Giants got back OF prospect Tristan Peters, who was a seventh round pick in the 2021 draft. He projects as a plus hitter with average speed. There isn’t much pop in his bat, as he projects to have below average power. So far this season with the Brewers at high A he is slashing .306/.386/.485 with a 140 wRC+. While he is a contact oriented corner outfield prospect, being only 22 years old he has the ability to add power to his profile, and his ceiling most likely varies on how much pop he can add.
The Brewers are taking a chance on a reliever who was one of the best in the league in 2020, but hasn’t pitched since that season. While the Giants flip a reliever that hasn’t pitched a single game for them, in exchange for a contact first outfield bat with a plus hit tool.
