Tommy Pham Traded to the Red Sox

Posted on August 15, 2022August 19, 2022 by Max T

The Red Sox acquired OF Tommy Pham from the Reds in exchange for a player to be named later (PTBNL).

Tommy Pham has had an interesting season, from hitting .186 with a .667 OPS through his first 17 games of the season to slapping Joc Pederson during pregame warmups over a fantasy football dispute. Although Pham has started to turn his season around, in 91 games with the Reds this season Pham has posted a 91 wRC+. Pham has always been at the top of the league in terms of exit velocity, he has continued that this year posting a 46% hard hit rate with the Reds. He has also played some solid defense, posting 3 DRS in left field.

While it is unknown who the Reds will receive for Pham it most likely won’t be much as the 34 year old outfielder is basically a rental, however he does have a mutual option for the 2023 season.

The Red Sox acquired a high exit velocity and solid defense outfielder, while the Reds will take their chance on a PTBNL, most likely a prospect.
