Guardians vs. Rockies 6/14/22 Analysis

The Guardians took a 4-3 victory over the Rockies despite them having an xBA 65 points lower than the Rockies.

It was a Shane Bieber start day for the Guardians, he went 6.2 innings with 7 strikeouts and 3 earned runs. Bieber had 12 swings and misses, due to his mix of fastballs, sliders, and knuckle curves. Bieber’s knuckle curve has a .178 xBAA and a -4 run value on the season. Eli Morgan and his elite changeup pitched 1.1 innings with 2 strikeouts. Morgan’s changeup has a .086 BAA and a -2 run value. Morgan’s ERA is down to 1.82 on the season. Bryan Shaw and Emmanuel Clase both threw hitless innings of work.

The Guardians offense provided Shane Bieber just enough run support to get him the win. Jose Ramirez finished the game 2-4 with a 2B, BB, and 3 RBI’s. Ramirez also had 3 hard hit balls. Josh Naylor finished with a statline of 3-4, two of those hits being doubles. Even though Andres Gimenez only went 1-4 he finished the game with 3 hard hit balls.

Antonio Senzatela started the game for the Rockies, he earned the QS, going 6 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 4. Jhoulys Chacin, Alex Colome, and Daniel Bard all threw scoreless appearances. Robert Stephenson also pitched an inning in relief, only allowing an unearned run.

Charlie Blackmon hit a 437 foot homer off of a Shane Bieber curveball. Jose Iglesias went 2-3, the 32 year old is now hitting .315 on the year. Even though Randal Grichuk only went 1-4 he hit the ball hard 4 times.
