The battle of L.A. ended with a 4-1 Dodgers win.
It was a special night for Tyler Anderson, who took a no-hit bid into the 9th inning. Anderson went 8.1 innings, throwing 123 pitches, allowing only 2 hits and 1 run. Anderson struck out 8 and collected 13 swings and misses, 9 of those whiffs came on his changeup. Anderson’s changeup has been nothing short of spectacular, it has a -11 run value, .101 BAA, and a minuscule 13.8 hard hit percentage. Once Anderson ran out of juice, Craig Kimbrel came into the game getting 2 outs both of which came via the strikeout.
The Dodgers as a team had a .313 xBA, even though no Dodgers had a multi-hit game. The two through seven hitters in the Dodgers lineup each recorded a hit. Trea Turner and Will Smith each hit homers, those were the only 2 extra base hits that the Dodgers recorded in the game.
Tyler Anderson’s special night ended when Shohei Ohtani hit a triple in the bottom of the ninth. Ohtani’s triple was immediately followed up by a Matt Duffy single, that scored the only run of the game for the Angels.
Reid Detmers needed 83 pitches to get through just 3.2 innings. He allowed 4 hits, 3 walks, and 4 earned runs. Jimmy Herget, Austin Warren, and Jaime Barria each had scoreless appearances. But the story of the game was the utter dominance from Tyler Anderson.
