Padres vs. Cubs 6/14/22 Analysis

The Cubs continued their skid and have now lost 8 in row, after this 12-5 loss versus the cubs.

The Padres scored 12 unanswered runs starting in the sixth inning with a Luke Voit homer. The Padres followed up their 4 run sixth with a 6 run seventh to take the lead. Voit finished the game 2-6 with a 2B, HR, and 5 RBI’s. Catcher Jorge Alfaro also hit a homer and finished the game going 2-4.

Sean Manaea went 4 innings for the Padres allowing 8 hits and 5 earned runs. Manaea allowed 8 hard hit balls, he did however collect 13 swings and misses, 8 of which came on Manaea’s sinker. Kyle Tyler threw 2 innings of 1 hit baseball, Nabil Crismatt did the same. Ray Kerr only needed 6 pitches to get through his inning of work.

Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks had 6 strikeouts through 5 innings giving up only 4 hits and 1 earned run. Hendricks had 14 whiffs, 9 of which came on his changeup. Chris Martin gave up 3 earned runs and 3 hits in his 0.2 innings pitched. Scott Effross gave up 2 earned runs and 3 hits while only getting 1 out. Mychal Givens gave up 4 earned runs and 3 walks while not even recording an out. Eric Stout threw 2 innings of 2 earned run and 3 hit baseball. Brandon Hughes was the only Cubs pitcher to have a scoreless appearance.

Willson Contreras was the highlight of the Cubs offense, going 3-4 with 2 HR and a 2B. He also had 3 hard hit balls and 3 RBI’s. Nico Hoerner was the only other Cub with an extra base hit.
