Isaac Paredes went 3/3 with 3 homers doing the majority of his damage against AL Cy Young contender Nestor Cortes.
In Paredes first at-bat against Cortes he watched a slider end up middle middle for a strike, then watched a cutter down and in for a ball. In a 1-1 count he got another cutter but Cortes hung it, Paredes got the barrel out front and hit it 360 feet for his first homer of the game.
In his second at-bat he battled Cortes fouling off sliders, sinkers, and 4-seamers. But on the 7th pitch of the at-bat Paredes got another cutter from Cortes, who left it right down the heart of the plate, allowing Paredes to hit it 402 feet for his second homer of the game.
Right before Paredes third at-bat, Yankees manager Aaron Boone called for the bullpen and pulled Cortes from the game. Clarke Schmidt was called upon to try and put a stop to the sizzling hot Paredes, he did not succeed. On the very first pitch of the at-bat, Schmidt left a fastball middle middle, Paredes promptly put it in the seats for his third homer of the game.
Paredes has been hitting cutters extremely well this season, he now has a 7.0 RV/100 and an 1.143 SLG against cutters. Paredes has been extremely patient at the plate so far this season, his 1st pitch swing percentage is only 15.4% compared to the league average 29.3%. His whiff percentage of 17.7% and swing percentage of 41.1% are both much lower than the league average. Paredes bat to ball skills have helped him stay around an .800 OPS this season.
