Marlins vs. Phillies 6/14/22 Analysis

Posted on June 16, 2022August 4, 2022 by Max T

An 11-9 comeback victory for the Marlins in a wild offensive game with 24 total hits. The Marlins combined for a .272 xBA, 4 homers, and 12 hard hit balls. Three of those hard hit balls came off the bat of Jorge Soler who was 2-5 with a double. Jesus Aguilar had 4 RBI’s and was 2-5 with a homer and a double. The Marlins didn’t receive much help from their pitching staff as Trevor Rogers disappointing season continued versus the Phillies, Rogers allowed 4 earned runs and 6 walks in 3.2 innings. Rogers breakout 2021 was highlighted by his fastball which had a -15 run value, 30.5 K%, and a .218 xBA. However so far in 2022 his fastball has a 7 run value, 17.7 K%, and a .325 xBA. A trip down to AAA seems to be looming in Rogers future. Dylan Floro also struggled heavily in his 0.2 innings pitched giving up 4 earned runs. Steven Okert also gave up a homer in his inning of work. Richard Bleier, Anthony Bass, and Tanner Scott all threw scoreless appearances. Zach Eflin threw six innings of five hit, four run baseball. He collected four strikeouts and nine swings and misses, three on his sinker, three on his curveball, two on his fastball, and one on his slider. Both Eflin’s velocity and spin rates were down compared to his yearly averages. Like most Phillies games the bullpen of Philadelphia let them down again. Jeurys Familia, Seranthony Dominguez, Brad Hand, Corey Knebel, and Andrew Bellatti combined for three innings of seven run baseball. Rhys Hoskins and Alec Bohm led the offense for the Phillies. Hoskins had 3 hard hit balls and went 4-5 with 2 HR, 2B, and 6 RBI. Bohm also had 3 hard hit balls and went 2-5 with a 2B and 2 RBI. The Phillies had 13 hits and a .319 xBA in the loss, not much more you could ask for from your offense.
